The _MAR tag produced by Geni.com is probably not included in Legacy's list of recognised Gedcom tags. Legacy certainly understands the more common tags of _MARN and _MARNM for married names. When importing the Gedcom, open the list of unrecognised terms and have Legacy convert the _MAR tag to an _MARN or _MARNM tag. Alternatively you can change them in the Gedcom file with a text editor. After the import, you can check if Legacy has got it right in the Marriage Information (MRIN) window.
As an alternative, instead of merging the Geni.com produced Gedcom file into your existing Legacy database, why not create a new database, then import this Gedcom into this new database then use the advanced tagging function of Legacy to select the family members you want to keep. Export these to a new Legacy database then merge this with your existing database. I have never used Geni.com, so I am unable to assist you in how to limit (edit) any data for export to a Gedcom file.
