Unfortunately you probably won't get the results you are looking for from within Legacy. Index View can only be sorted by RIN, Given Name, Surname or UserID. Calendar List Report is probably better than nothing (Reports > All Reports). Or printing search results if you are looking for certain date ranges in certain locations (i.e. any born between 1873 & 1876 in Cleveland, Ohio) but I still haven't figured out if that can be sorted by date. I don't think so. The only other choice I know of is to export a list to a spreadsheet like Excel and play with the data until you get your desired results. I find it can be a real pain just to get a simple list with 3 columns - name, birth date & birth place. The program I used before Legacy used to allow you to create such a report and sort by birth date, but even that program doesn't allow this any more.
If you are familiar with Access you may be able to get a report that way. Or maybe the UserID field could be used for such purposes. Somewhere in the archives there is a discussion about this very topic. It's probably in the "old" archives - see bottom of any LUG email for the link to archives before Nov. 2009.
