Everyone's computer situation is unique, so I would be cetain to be backed up and GEDCom-ed out, but I did a computer sync when I changed from my 32-bitold laptop to my 64-bit new laptop without a problem. It was simple and easy. Well worth the cost of the sync cord.
Best of luck. Has anyone done this? If so, how did you set it up and did it work okay? Yes, I know I can use a thumb drive, etc., and that may be easier and less confusing.
