Tony:

There are a couple of choices (your #1 and #3). A fair rule of thumb is to
source what you hold in your hand, which would be the photocopy. That said,
I'd personally prefer to cite the parish register since it's the original
source and you know the details. That way, someone else could follow the same
path and find the record. Of course you did make a note of the fiche title and
number didn't you?

Subject: [LegacyUG] How to source this

I recently spent a day at the Museum of Wigan Life and searched their
microfiche. I found the baptism of William CAREY in the St. John's Church
microfiche and have made a printed copy of the appropriate page.

My question is "what is the correct way to source this?".

I can think of 3 possibilities

1) As a church record. It was, originally, a baptism entry in the parish
Registers
2) As a Government record - The Museum is the holder of the microfiche and is a
government body
3) As my private papers - I hold the document which I am using as the evidence.

I suspect that option 1 is correct, but would be interested to hear the
"correct" way to do this.

Thanks

Tony
