I recently discovered that USB flash drives have a limited lifespan. Last April I bought a 32 Gb Sandisk Cruzer specifically for backing up my genealogy data. Now Win7 won't recognize it, nor will another computer running Linux and Sandisk has yet to reply to my query about a warranty after e-mailing them four days ago.
Fortunately it was only a back-up so nothing was lost. Today I burned everything to DVD, all the Legacy back-up files, all the multi-media files and gedcom files for everything in case I ever have computer problems with Legacy. The DVD is stored in a special box where I keep all the original family documents and photographs. Seems that the more you pay, the longer the life you can expect from a flash drive but I'm still out the $$ for this one. So burn all your files to DVD occasionally, just in case. BTW, I've asked for archival CDs for Christmas, they're supposed to have a longer lifespan than ordinary DVDs.
