Elizabeth, I would look at Advanced Tagging to do this, which I think is available in the standard version - let us know if you have a problem.
First tag the descendants of you oldest ancestors(s), then go to the spouses whose ancestors you wish to include, and using Advanced Tagging, tag the ancestors of that person with the same tag. Then select only to print the tagged people. Not having tried this I cannot say where they will appear in the report! I do not know what you mean by messing up the numbering. How messed up would the numbering of each person be and is there a way to make it right?
