James,

I don't know about any international standards, but what I use for the item
that just doesn't fit any category or is definitely a one-off is an event
that I titled "Miscellaneous Notes". This event has no description, no date
nor any place fields. It only contains Notes and Sources. My use of this
event is more of an exception rather than the norm. But it certainly helps
out when I have something that doesn't fit elsewhere.

This event also comes in handy when I have a long text like a biography that
I want to break into smaller pieces and have sources for each piece. Then
when I print out a Descendant Book (a.k.a. Modified Register report) each
piece or paragraph can have its own source citation as needed.

Anyway, this is just one option. I'm sure that the many members of this
list will probably have other options to suggest that will be helpful to
you.

Subject: [LegacyUG] ISO ideas for recording history not specifically related
to an individual?

In one of my lines recently (Willis), I've been working with several
sources that each provide sort of an introduction to the family.
Something along the lines of:

Before 1600, the family was from Warwickshire, England. The castle at
Fenny Compton is of particular interest due to the wealth of church
records and grave markers that can be found there. Also, the family
can be found in the Visitations of Warwick 1619...

I'd like to be able to capture these hints/tips/pointers somehow in my
database in a way so they do not get lost or forgotten, and when I
generate reports or otherwise share my findings they are shared as
well. Do you have any tricks for how to something like this? I've
considered a stubby individual to attach it to, and just keep making
stubby be the oldest ancestor of my line, but wanted to know if there
might be other ways to do this.

As an aside, the Visitation book(s) can be found electronically via
Google, but I can't read/decode them. If anyone could kindly point me
to any how-tos or other guides for how to use these books it would be
most appreciated. Off-list of course.
