Hi David,

Yes, I was trying to log into NEW.familysearch.org and could not. You need, for
lack of a better term, an 'upgrade' of your existing account to do so.

If you go to the link they gave me, about halfway down there is a 'Click Here
to open the registration page' When you go to that screen, in the upper left,
since you already have an existing account, you sign in with that account. That
starts the process of requesting access for your existing account to
new.familysearch.org.

That also lets you login in Legacy Family Search.

Once again, the link is:

Are you logging into the New or the Old family search?

Try new.familysearch.org, if you cannot login at that URL, then you are not
getting into the “NEW” family search.

My old account was disabled, now my new account will login to the “Old”
family search but not the new one.

It also will not login through Legacy.

Thanks,
David C Abernathy

Wow, this is great news! I see two of you have suddenly gained access! I
suggest anyone on the list who has a FamilySearch ID go ahead and give it a try
again, even if you were waiting to hear something from NFS; maybe you will also
gain access to NFS right away. Or even if you don't, go ahead and follow the
link Paul posted and register for access. Maybe it is going much faster now :-)

Exciting news for everyone I hope!! Kathy On Sat, Mar 10, 2012 at 12:00 AM,

Kathy,

I sent a query to Family Search and quickly received a reply on how to
register. The link below is an article on how to register for
new.familysearch.org. On the registration page, one can use an existing family
search account, or create a new one. I used my existing account.

I was granted access. It’s a wonderful resource, I have so much to learn.

I will look for that for you but I'm pretty sure everyone had to create a new
account, LDS or non-LDS. I had to do that but I know that they later linked
our User sign ons to multiple areas of the LDS.org site, etc. so we use one
sign on for multiple things. I will see if I can find what you are referring
to though and maybe someone else here will know off hand. Maybe there is
someone on here who is a volunteer with NFS customer service; those people know
a LOT :-)

You are right that activating Legacy's LFS features right now won't do you much
good. It's designed to search for your people in NFS and allow you to compare
information, combine duplicates, etc.

I'll post here if I find that info for you :-) Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I am not LDS, and I have had a regular FamilySearch account for some time. I’ve
used it for, among other things ordering films to be delivered to my local FHC.
When I try to sign on to new.familysearch.org I get the expected ‘Your account
is not ready for new.familysearch.org’.

Until I have access to NFS, I see no reason to activate LFS in Legacy Family
Tree.

When I try to register for new.familysearch.org it wants me to create a brand
new account, which I would rather not do.

I seem to remember a link to a page somewhere where you could sign on with (or
identify) your existing account, and request an ‘upgrade’ to a
new.familysearch.org account. You would go on a list, and at some point be
granted access.

Could you, or anyone else on this list who knows it, paste a link to it here?

Thanks

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help

There are two different sites, 3 really, if you can still access the 'old'
familysearch site.

1-www.familysearch.org - you can search all of the extracted and indexed
records - this archive is added to constantly due to the continuing efforts of
thousands of volunteers all over the world. This is accessible to anyone in the
world for FREE

2-www.new.familysearch.org - this is the one that includes family pedigrees
submitted from thousands of individuals, primarily LDS members, over the years.
The 'old' familysearch had much of this information but it wasn't connected
into family trees like it is now. The LDS members have been working on
clearing up duplication, catching bugs, suggesting improvements and adding more
data to this huge family tree for the last few years. The general public is
getting access to this site gradually and has been over the last several
months. Go to this site and click on the register button, fill out the form
and wait. It could take a week or several months. There is no timeline that can
be promised on this. This is a site with family trees, therefore, SECONDARY
information from other researchers.  A lot of people confuse these two sites;
this one will be available to everyone for free once everything is implemented
and it is ready for the influx of users when they do a general release.

Does that help? Kathy

Can anyone tell me if Family Search in now off limits to non-LDS.I used to use

My email address, old username and password are still valid but I can't seem to
be able to use the search function.

I know things have changed & are changing but is it still possible to use it at
all for non-LDS?

Thanks,
