Thanks to everyone for the advice. I hadn't thought of a memorial event. It sounds a good way to handle it except that it would appear at the end of a report, far away from the death.
My other thought would be to put the memorial location details in the buried location and add burial notes to explain what really happened. Like most things, I'll play around with it and see what works for me. I've now got lots of options I didn't have before.
