How much memory do you have on your computer? Which version of Windows do you have? You need a minimum of 2 MB if you have Windows 7 - it's better with 4 MB.
Do you have other programs running in the background when going into the Picture Gallery? When was the last time you defragged your computer? I'd recommend that you do that - it should be under Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Run File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair on the Family File (back up first - File > Backup Family FIle). Legacy needs time to create the thumbnails. If your pictures are a large file size (how big are the JPG files?), it can slow down the process. Most people only run into problems when they have too many TIF files linked or large jpgs.
