Laptops are getting cheaper by the day. I bought an Acer (Acer Blue 14" Aspire AS4752Z-4864 Laptop PC ) from Wal-Mart for $375 and it is great. I have owned computers since before the PC clones started showing up on the market and DOS was the only operating system and have come to trust Acer more than any other brand. The battery lasts for about 4 hours and although $375 is a lot of money for me too, I sold a few things just laying around the house and paid for mine. I'm living on Social Security so every penny counts but this purchase has added so much to my research. At our recent reunion I burned CDs of my Gedcom file for several family members and added new information to my files. I'm not "smart" enough for a smart phone and my eyes aren't good enough to see the tiny screen. Used laptops are another option. I have seen reasonably recent laptops selling for as little as $150 with Windows XP which works fine with Legacy. I find the laptop much more valuable than a years membership to Ancestry.com. If Ancestry.com keeps going up on price I will opt out.
