Marie, I am unsure if we are talking about the same thing. The file name is the name which you give to the picture when saving it eg. "JoeBlogs.jpg", the folders will be different if you have a separate folder for each family, but that constitutes part of the path not the file name eg. for a folder on your C drive that would be C:\Blogs\JoeBlogs.jpg.
The point is that *if* and *only if* the file names are different for each family member, then you could move them to the appropriate named family folder. Then find a picture which Legacy has lost, opt to find it yourself, and in the dialog which will be displayed go to the folder for that picture and Legacy will then find all those in the folder. As has already been said, if your family folders are put in the Legacy Picture folder, usually at C:\Legacy\Pictures\, then it will be easy to transfer them to another machine, and for Legacy to find them. I hope that is clear Ron Ferguson http://www.fergys.co.uk/ From: mvmc...@aol.com Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 11:42 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Sources for pictures The projects are separate so I assume the file names will be different. But all family photo's for a specific family should be in the same file. Yes? Are the file names all different, or may some be the same? I made a screen capture [JPG] of the listings and they appear to be all over the place. I use the Legacy Archive a file when I'm done updating the project. I have several projects going at one time. My Mom and Dad are separate as is my husbands, a one name study and then my daughter in law and sons in law. When I started 35 years ago with pencil and paper it didn't seem that big a deal. I use "restore" in Legacy when I move the project from machine to machine. In Legacy, click on View, then Master Lists, then Picture Location. The file paths (everything except the very last part the file name itself) should be listed. What do the paths look like, is your XP user name, or ‘documents and Settings’ in there somewhere? If so, it looks like they are in your user area. When you say using the restore function, are you talking the Legacy backup and restore, or something else? Paul Hi Paul, Thanks for the response. Actually I'm going between 3 computer. A desk top in VA, a laptop that I take for research and a desk top in NJ. I use XP on all machines. As to path I don't have a clue. I just scanned them and assumed they would go into the Legacy folder and transfer the same way the data transfers.
