Jim, Nothing weird about it at all, you gave the explanation in saying you had a power outage. If any computer is on when there is such an outage anything can happen, as was repairing broken programs for the reason some 30 years ago.
As you indicate the lesson is always to protect your computer with at least a surge protector.
