With jet planes, it may not be so today, but for ancestors, the date of leaving (emigration) was often different from the date of arriving (immigration). They are two different events. Sometimes you know one, sometimes the other, and sometimes both. Also, the location for each event is going to be different. Seems simple enough, yet it's confusing to me. When immigrant family members arrive in the US for the first time (and have made the US their home), I have made an Immigration Event for them. Are you saying that these events should now be "Emigration" events? :-) On Fri, Oct 12, 2012 at 2:05 PM, Eliz Hanebury <elizhg...@gmail.com> wrote: "Emigration is the act of permanently leaving one's country or region to settle in another" Immigration is the coming in to the new country <G> Eliz On Fri, Oct 12, 2012 at 1:58 PM, Dick Nixon <nixon.d...@gmail.com> wrote: >> >> I have a family where the husband and wife were both born in Europe, > > I think that both immigration and emigration involve the intent to > become a citizen, or at least a permanent resident, of the country > they went to.
