Actually, Fraktur is a German typeface and Sütterlin is a handscript. Fraktur
was in printed books, Sütterlin was how Germans wrote. My mother is old enough
to have learned Sütterlin in school. I was born in Germany but I am not quite
old enough :) I do pride myself on my Sütterlin handwriting ability though.

Fraktur is old germanic script
See http://www.omniglot.com/writing/german.htm or better, but its all in
German: http://www.mikrolisk.de/show.php/101/chapter_5
You are faced with trying to decipher fraktur if you research old German
records.
It was superseded by Sutterlin script in the early 1900's, which disappeared in
1940's to the current script.
