Yes, I know if you put double square brackets around the text it becomes 
private... what I was trying to point out is that the shortcut (Ctrl-P) is not 
working for me in the 'General Notes' window.

It does work in other 'notes' windows - like the Source Detail window - but it 
does not work for me in the individuals General Notes window.

Works for me! You must select the bit of private text first, before pressing 
Ctrl-P
