Thanks to all. Renaming the Legacyx.lic file does the trick. But a few clarifying notes:
*Windows7, 32-bit and 64-bit for Legacy7*: The Legacy7.lic file is in the folder C:\Program Files\Legacy\ Widows7, 32-bit for Legacy 8: The Legacy8.lic file is in the folder C:\Program Files\Legacy\ Windows7, 64-bit for Legacy 8: The Legacy8.lic file is in the folder C:\Users\*UserName*\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData These values are based on default installation paths.
