Syble, Current versions of Microsoft Word will open a PDF. I'm not sure how much editing you could do before you mess up the Table of Contents and especially the Index beyond what you'd want to manually fix.
You can save a Book report to .rtf (rich text format) which can be opened in word processor. Read the Help for information on the Table of Contents, Index and Pictures. You can save a Descendant Chart in .txt format which also can be opened in a word processor.
