Mike is correct (as usual). Users are not limited to only those event names
that appear in the list by default. You can add additional names of events as
much as you please but most users never find the need beyond just a couple of
special event names that fit their fancy. Some never find the need at all. It
all depends on which info or facts you want to make appear in reports.

If you are unsure of how to create a new event name such as "Photo", follow
these simple steps. Do NOT read the Help file because it is wrong or misleading
about how to add a new event name. Simply click on the ADD button on the
Individual's Information window. A new window will open entitled Add Event for
<person's name>. Now this is where you couldn't find PHOTO or any other user
created name on the drop down list next to the EVENT/FACT line. Simply type in
PHOTO on that line and that name will be added to the Master Event List. That's
all there is to it. Next time you go to add such a special user-created event,
that name will appear in the drop down list or if you start to type the word,
Legacy will attempt to suggest the proper name.

The PHOTO event is unique because Legacy limits itself to displaying only the
"Preferred Picture" that you attach to certain events and individuals. For
example, you may have 6 or more photos of your father or mother starting with a
baby photo on through ones taken when they were elderly. You have to select
only one of those and declare it your "Preferred Picture" even though Legacy
allows you to attach more than one to a person. The "preferred picture" is the
only one that Legacy will display in reports and web page creations. But by
creating an event called "Photo" you can any photo you want to that particular
event and then date the event appropriately. Then create more Photo events and
attach a different photo of the person...and so on. It's nothing more than a
workaround of the single preferred picture limitation in Legacy. It doesn't
even have to be called "Photo" but anything you wish.
