As Cathy stated, they don’t take up any more room if the files are on the
Desktop or in any other folder. After all, the Desktop is really a folder
itself and is found inside the Users folder on the C:\ drive.

A simple solution would be to create a link on the desktop which directly opens
up the …\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr folder (or any other folder
that you want to appear on the desktop).

All it takes is a bit of one-time navigation using Windows Explorer to find the
folder, then drag and drop it to any open area on the desktop while holding
down the ALT key. Make sure you do not hold down the CTRL key which would just
make a current copy of the folder or worse, mistakenly hold down the SHIFT key
which would move the folder and cause all kinds of problems for your existing
Legacy settings.

Remember, you can do this with ANY folder in Legacy and as long as it is merely
a link to the real folder, then Legacy continues to function as it has and with
no change to any of your settings.

Hi Ian,

I think you are talking about saved searches.

Legacy 8 appears to be hardwired to save them in
...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\usr

I prefer my saved options to be in another folder but have that folder in the
_AppData folder rather than elsewhere so it's not a big deal to switch to it
for saving and loading. However it probably isn't a big deal to keep them
amongst the automatically generated usr files as the "Load" process filters the
list to just the relevant group.

What storage and logistic reasons stop you changing the folder you save them in?

You have to have the folder ...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\ or
Legacy doesn't work. If you move it, it is recreated with default settings.

They don't take up any more room on your drive if they're in Documents rather
than on the Desktop.

The \us r folder is opened automatically when you Save the search options and
when you Load them so once you moved them from the Desktop, you'd stop getting
bruises.

Cathy

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but I am very frustrated.
I have a list of search tools that I use to find entries, They are
stored with my Legacy files on my desktop.
This latest version of Legacy now will not auto route to that file
location when calling for a detailed search in the search window.
Each search is forcing me to manually route to the desktop location to
get the list of search tools. I cannot, for storage and logistic
reasons use another file location.
Legacy has always found and remembered the location in the past. I may
have told it where the location was but it remembered.

I sent in a bug to legacy but was told to just live with the change,
It is costing me time and worse, my memory is not what it used to be,
and the extra steps often cause me to forget what I was looking for,
so I have to go back to the file and replot my strategy.

Has anyone a solution to this? Am I missing a customize feature? I
have bruises on my forehead.
