Allow me to make one final suggestion to everything that Cathy has already mentioned. BEFORE you install Legacy v8 on your computer, make a backup of your v7.5 family file. You might even want to become paranoid and save that backup to a flash drive or some other place off of your computer. In this manner, then you should be assured of no problems with the version 8 installation somehow updating your one and only copy of the v7.5 family file and then there’d be no means of ever opening it again in the v7.5 program. Better safe than sorry.

You just need to install Legacy 8 to the defaults. It doesn't overwrite version 7 etc. It installs to the Program Files whereas earlier versions by default installed to C:\Legacy and if you changed it, you had to avoid the Program Files folder. Earlier versions of Legacy had a default Data folder under the program folder: C:\Legacy\Data Legacy 8 has default Data folder in Documents. It sets up a folder: Documents\Legacy Family Tree\ In this folder is a folder for Data (which you don't have to use but might as well). However there is a vital folder in this Legacy Family Tree folder. It's called _AppData and it contains your settings. You can't move it or rename the Legacy Family Tree folder.
