I agree, I myself have learnt some new things by these side issues, which is why
I subscribe and read the replies.

Once again we may need to say, "You can't please all the people all the

programs and the operating systems we use to run them. Life is a big learning
curve.

come with Win 10. I use Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer and not “Edge’

to Legacy -can SKS act asintermediary, please Denise Thanks for the FTM
update. I’m not that great with software and file conversions, backups and
switching use between computers. I would like to do some research while on an
extended trip beginning next week but not exactly sure how to go about that.
I do have Legacy installed on a Windows 10 computer I will be taking with me
but I normally work with a Windows 7 computer and prefer Windows XP. I don’t
like Windows 10 at all but then I’ve told my kids no more devices as gifts
please. Not up to it all any longer. Bill From: LegacyUserGroup

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] FTM file to Legacy -can SKS act as intermediary,
please Bill, No, Ancestry sold FTM (programming code, brand name, etc) to
Software MacKiev in January of this year. They also provide support and offer
upgrade from older versions of FTM to their new version of that software.
Software MacKiev is supposedly ‘partnering’ with Ancestry to rework the Sync
system between FTM and Ancestry’s online trees. That company is also reworking
the FTM 2014 code (there has already been a version 2014.1 release) to fix many
of the memory usage problems with Ancestry’s FTM code, and are supposedly
planning a new updated version of FTM. Software MacKiev is the developer of the
Mac version of FTM. The FTM interface has a lot of positive features – for
example the Sources tab that offers direct access to both sources and citations
– along with many negatives (for example, no way to locally change an even
sentence for one individual, only global changes to all uses of an event).
I’ve spent a number of years with TMG (1995-2002), followed by Genbox
(2002-2013), before using FTM and now looking at transferring totally to
Legacy. There are many ‘hidden’ differences between FTM and Legacy, for example
the way each creates, displays, uses, and transfers via GEDCOM married names.
Even though Genbox was ‘discontinued’ (although still available) the end of
2007, I still rate that genealogy software as ‘excellent’, well beyond TMG.

please I thought FTM no longer selling a product so maybe no necessary
support for the software and Win 10. I had serious issues with a FTM update
which was never resolved and I switched to Legacy about 2 or 3 years ago. Left
FTM files on my Win 7 PC just for reference but have not done so for months, a
lot of them. Bill

Hope the problem is sorted but I find it strange that FTM won't work on
or with Windows 10. My old FTM program from the days of Windows 95 and 98
still works as went into it other day to check on some data and exported a
file to Legacy. Since I bought it years ago I have gone through numerous
computers, XP, Windows 7 and now 10. Just curious has any-one else
experienced this. On Wednesday, 31 August 2016 5:06 AM, Judy

I still have my FTM installed on a Win7 machine and would be happy to
receive your sister's file and return it as a GED or import it into
Legacy and return it t her.
