Linda Dean,
1. Make sure that you don't leave Legacy Charting or Legacy FamilySearch
modules open when you close Legacy.
2. If you have your working file in the cloud (Dropbox or One Drive etc)
consider moving it and just keeping your Legacy Backups in the cloud.
3. The message usually comes because the lock file on the databases in
your family file are not closed when Legacy closes. Your family file is
made up of the main database <your family file name>.fdb and several
associated files that all start with <your family file name>. They may
include two other databases that are locked when Legacy opens the file -
the relationship database and the hints database. You can just make sure
those LDB files are deleted before opening Legacy but this is usually
only a problem if you crash out of Legacy or have your working file in
the cloud.

When I open a family file I get a message that the file is in use by
someone else and certain features are not available. I don't know
what features they are because I don't want to worry whether my work
is being properly saved or not. How do I fix it? I have run file
maintenance, which didn't help. I have to reboot the program entirely
and sometimes several times. Sometimes I have to reboot the entire
computer. I have installed all the updates, including the most recent
one. It seems to be getting worse. Can I get rid of this error message?
Frustrated.
