Valerie,
You can load from Legacy to Ancestry but Ancestry doesn't have a place
for all the Legacy information.
Do not then update on Ancestry and plan to download and reimport into
your Legacy file. Ancestry gedcoms are a mess. You'll just add to your
normal problems of multiple files.
By all means use an Ancestry tree to find additional information but
enter it also in Legacy. You can use tree tags in Ancestry to note
whether you've done that or not.
I did just a few people last week when I was feeling lazy and wanted
some people from my Q and D DNA private unsearchable tree on Ancestry.
It was a mistake. Names and dates are OK and I didn't have many events
but locations were awful as I'd entered people from other people's trees
and sources created by Ancestry don't match my style and most were not
my sources so had to be marked as such. I know how to do all that and
I'll replace them in time BUT in the end it would have been quicker to
manually enter them all again after finding and sorting them out on
Ancestry. Of course I didn't import them straight into my file but into
a new file and cleaned up locations and marked the sources by changing
their source list name and changed Ancestry's residence event to Census
which is what it usually is, etc first.
