Crystal I have been doing genealogy for over forty years. My database is a compilation of research and collaboration with over 1400 users.
I began using TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Site Building) since 2017. I also use the host they had recommended “Simply Hosting” My data includes over 750,00 individuals and over 30,000 images… I created this website so that I might share it with others that have the same interests…. While I know it may not be perfect, so I depend on others to suggest edits and recommend additions or changes. I usually update every 7-10 days. As far as cost with “Simply Hosting” Domain annually about $15.00 prepaid Hosting fee (for my size database) about $150.00 annually prepaid I do not charge for using the website so it is not for profit website (free searches) although everyone must request a user account (simple process) The cost of TNG I believe about $40.00 and I paid at the time for the program owner to do the install.. (about $15 or $20 dollars) The same cost would apply if you desired to update in the future… the program owner is involved in the improvements… And of course if you are skilled enough you can do the installation…. There are many vides on “you tube” Search “The next generation of genealogy site building” Lastly, there are many templates available with the program, and there are also outside programmers that have developed template you can purchase at an addition cost. I belong to a non-profit family project. The group is the Ferree Family and our tree is the Ferree Family Association tree currently hosted on a private account on Ancestry. We have over 39 thousand names in the tree. Our current tree was a temporary fix until we determine a new way to store our tree so that descendants can view the tree and recommend changes, etc. We are considering all of the options of moving forward and where best to put our tree for future generations. We are a non-profit, with a website, we are also looking into creating a new website and have yet determined what platform to house the website. It is my understanding that with the appropriate software running in the background on a website we can use Legacy to house the tree. I hope what I am asking makes sense. Is there anyone with experience with our situation and can you provide some advice please. Crystal
