I have been enjoying the debate on the relative merits or otherwise of Clooz
etc. I tend to think that as far as sourcing and censuses are concerned, I
seem to have found a way that works for me and I am sure I have read that
others on this Group use the same method. An entry found for a family in a
census is entered as a source in the source clipboard, in it's entirety. All
details as transcribed are entered in the source detail text. Because
everything is in the program, it should rarely be necessary to go back to
the original source document again, so it can just be filed away. I would
then allocate that source to everyone who appears in the census entry,
against a census event, which is dead easy using the source clipboard, just
a single click. The source detail text doesn't have to be printed on reports
if you don't want to and it means that if I come across an individual and
wish to know the context in which he lived at any one time, the census
source gives me the whole picture. The problem with entering census
information only in the head of household or just entering each individual's
information on their own record is that you lose the family group connection
which they had at that time.
This method of entry has proved very effective over the years in connecting
families together and making connections between groups of people that would
otherwise be missed. The only thing missing at present is Legacy's inability
to search on sources.......which I am confident will be remedied in time.
Seems to work for me
