I just checked that, William, and mine does the same thing. This is a glitch
in the program that needs fixing.

I also checked whether, if you went ahead and typed the full replacement
word out, it would replace with the full word. It doesn't, it simply
replaces the word with the last letter typed.

I did it several times, and it repeats consistently. Here is the exact
problem. In Options/Customize, under the Data Entry/Edit tab, Field Entry
Highlight Behavior, select Highlight Entire Field. Save the setting.

Go to Search/search and replace. Type in the word to search for, tab to the
replace-with field and start typing the replacement word. Only one character
appears in the field - and each character you type replaces the last
character typed. I didn't replace anything, but in the screen which shows
the replacement that will occur, only the last letter is shown as the
replacement.
