For me that's what a master source can do. It depends on how you view
events and sources I guess. My approach is that an event is unique to a
person, I can create as many events as I want for a person and call them
what I want. A master sources however can apply to a range of people
Thus I could have 13 different people all with an event called 'Residence'.
All 13 events use a single master source called 'Census, 1851, London,
Thomas' (London being the census place and Thomas the surname'. This lists
every detail of the household, it's inhabitants, ages, marital status etc.
Because I may have several census listings for a person I can track where
they lived and who was in the household. I can also quote that master
source for other purposes on the persons record, in this case the occupation
quoted is used as evidence that the individual concerned was a soldier at
that stage.
If I wanted to trace who shared that master source I can view that through
one of the reports. The events don't have to be the named the same for all
13 people. For example I might make a will as a master source and then use
that master source for different events for the people mentioned in the
will.
