Jan, Margaret's suggestion is a good one - enter some individuals and some
information in different places, then try out the different report options
and decide where you want the information to appear. I have now been using
Legacy for about six months and have settled on entering the information
only once and using the birth-baptism-death-buried-marriage notes for those
items, the general notes for personality and family stories about the
individual, and the events for other things which don't fit those categories
(religion, occupation, education, residence, a census summary - with actual
census information in the sources, and a will/probate summary - with actual
will going in the sources, as well, employment, property/land, hobbies,
travel, naturalization/citizenship). I try to write statements in all of my
notes and events which are "stories" of the person and which will serve as a
family history, if I choose to print the notes, or a simple genealogy, if I
choose not to print the notes. And everything is backed up with sources -
often many for each item. Good luck - Legacy is a terrific program!!! Kathi

Subject: [LegacyUG] NOTES-event or icon?

> I recently got Legacy 3.0 and haven't used any family history software
berfore. Could someone tell me where the best place is to enter my notes on
events? There seem to be 2 places to enter notes. On the
> Individual's Information page after filling in the birth date and place, I
also entered this same information in "events" on the bottom of this page.
> I wanted to add some notes to this and there was a place labeled "notes"
on the
> "Add Event" page. I entered the information there.
>
> The other place to add notes on the Individual's Information page is to
the right of the last name and is found by clicking on the notes icon. What
should I put there if I have my notes under "events"?
>
> I am having the same problem in knowing where to put my notes on
marriages.

>
> When I print out a report or book, will these notes print out in different
places depending on which of the 2 places I entered my notes?
>

notes,
