I have had some complaints about the Legacy Users Group, so it's time to send out these rules again. Everyone please read and head. Thanks, Jim Terry Millennia Technical Support http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com Legacy Users Group Etiquette 1. Please keep the tone of messages friendly and helpful. Remember we were all beginners at one time. 2. Please keep to the topic of Legacy. The newsgroup is for discussing the Legacy Family Tree genealogy program. Don't send jokes, political opinion, religious messages, etc. 3. Please make sure the Subject line is filled in and reflects purpose of your message. 4. Please send messages in plain text form. People with visual impairments may find messages with colored text and backgrounds hard to read. Other recipients may get messages filled with HTML code that's hard to read. In addition, viruses can't hide in plain text messages like they do in HTML or RTF messages. Please see http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help/html-off.html for help in turning off HTML and RTF in messages. 5. Please don't send attachments. They can take a long to download. Also viruses can hide in attachments. Scan your computer for viruses regularly and keep your anti-viral software updated. 6. Please do not send "digitally signed" messages to the Legacy Users Group. Don't require replies to messages sent to the Legacy Users Group. In addition, please unsubscribe from the Users Group if you are going on vacation and need to use the AutoResponder the your email program. 7. Please only include relevant return text. There is no point including the entire text of the message if you are answering only one or two points. 8. Please use the spell checker and proof read. 9. Please simplify you signature file. Cutesy sayings aren't cute the tenth time around and lists of names being researched are a waste time. There are better place to advertise your research interests. 10. Please, please wait before sending a flame (a hostile, negative message). Cool off before responding. If still angry in two hours, send a reply directly to the sender, not to the group. This will help keep the tone of the Users Group friendly and helpful. NOTE: Flamers will be removed from the Users Group without warning. 11. Please keep your messages brief and to the point. Extremely lengthy messages may never get read or answered. 12. The Legacy Users Group is not Spam. Everyone in the users group signed up for it. Spam is unsolicited e-mail. Please know how to unsubscribe yourself at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp. 13. Please don't respond to messages from people asking to be unsubscribed. They will probably never read it. Let the webmaster handle their requests. 14. We all like to be polite and express our gratitude; however, due to the high volume of Users Group messages, there is no need to send "Thank you" responses that contain no other relevant information.
