Myself as a source? Certainly - I am the best source about me and my
personal experiences with others. I have created a source "Family Member"
and the detail would be mother, grandfather 1st cousin twice removed, c'est
moi - whatever. One should be inventive with sources in my opinion. How
could a source be wrong if it is where you got the info?

Version 4? - isn't it a bit late to start wishing for modifications when
the cake is about ready to remove from the oven?

Sources not furnished? Excuse the ego and selfishness but you probably
won't get my sources. I might give them on your family but not the
peripheral lines - pay me $120 per hour to do your research or do it
yourself. If you get it from me, I am your source. If you want to discuss a
source, call me. If you aren't into genealogy but just want to know who
your ancestors were, I'll give you the info. You learn A LOT by doing it
yourself and walking 50 graveyards is good exercise - gets you away from
the computer. Everybody will not agree but there are some reasons.

Pinging? If it's a real hacker you won't get to him - he's about 20 layers
deep from his address. Hackers cast a wide net and ping a lot of fish. If
you aren't Microsoft or the Defense Department, he's probably not looking
for you. If you could really track those guys down you'd be earning
$250,000 or more per year.

Occupation? If your people are hard to find, any fact you get helps. If my
ancestors were farmers I look for land transactions in court records. If
they were big farmers I look for wills - I look for still legible
headstones. If you are back to 17?? you will grasp any straw. I am neat and
overly organized - but I am not aware of a genealogy award for it.

Scanned documents? I scan wills, land grants, etc. to a word processor and
cut and paste to an event for the person. A good genealogist is a detective
who makes a case from the available clues - I like all the clues in one spot.

Genealogy, to me, is a personal experience. I may audit the classes but I
prepare my final exam and grade myself. My final exam is whether what I
have done suits me. Genealogy is a challenge - I defy my ancestors to hide
from me forever. Where would I be if others did not share - the same place
I am now because there is money in making info available.

For every opinion there is an equal and opposite opinion - you have mine. 8-)
