Ted,

I'm still experimenting - just now I'm trying to figure out which way
to go with the next update. My first page has different elements,
where 'Our ancestors' as I believe was made using Legacy (could be a
different one, since some of the programs give very similar output).
Under
'Family Tree' you'll find an inplementation of the 'Dynamic Family
Tree' (DFT) program. You can see all this at
http://www.brandlweb.com/family.html - still in preliminary stage.

What I sofar have found and tried re. alternative approaches are the
following:

* Ged2Web:
Very powerful, produces descendant & ancestor pedigrees. But it shows
dates for marriages only, no birth & death dates or places
* GedBrowser:
Very peculiar graphics, in particular shaded boxes with pedigrees,
which I just can't get used to <g>. Fonts are too small for me either.
It's also taking up lots of space at each page, if memeory serves me.
* GenViewer
Have tried the pedigree charts - they show most/all of the data for
individuals in the tree, but graphically I'm not really convinced.
It's a rather basic textual solution taking up lots of space.
* GedHTree
Sofar seems to fit my personal taste best, very powerful too (it's
shareware, but at a very moderate price). Has rather nice boxed
pedigrees which can be browsed, offers timeline tables, name frequency
count, age stats and even maps (US & Europe) showing a density
distribution for people based on their birth country.

This time I'll probably combine GedHTree with any of the standard
ancestors book reports, the latter done with Legacy and/or PAF.

And no, I'm not related to any of these software companies/authors :-)

An informative survey page with much more genealogical web software
can btw be found at
http://help.surnameweb.org/knight/

Hope this helps some

Tilman
