I too am new to Legacy, but have had no problem backing up my files to a CD
Direct disc (touch wood!) as long as the CD is in the burner drive (I have
Easy CD Creator). Whilst your Legacy file is open, go to File, then to Backup
Family File; this then gives you the option to "Save in" so find your CD drive
& click to Save on that drive , & give the file a name. It then saves
the file as a zip file on the CD. You don't try to unzip it at all, but only use
it for Restore (have done this & it works).
The other option for backup is when you exit. Choose Backup, & follow
the same steps. If the backup already exists, it tells you that it is already
there & asks if you want to overwrite it. I have said yes, & away it
went. So far so good. Just to be on the safe side though, I will make another
backup copy to my floppy drive.
