Jon,

I have checked my machine for the oem*.inf files and find only 4 ... none of
which is at 0kb. You say you found 23,000+ of these? I am seemingly
constantly downloading and trying-out all kinds of new programs, etc. and
then un-installing those that I don't plan to use. Do you have any idea
where, or how, you have generated that many of this kind of file? Have you
re-checked to see if some internal loop is re-building them as you go along?

Sounds very strange at first blush...

Scott Carlton

Subject: [LegacyUG] Installing Jet 4.0 Pack & MDAC 2.7RTM

As a precautionary move, I decided to follow Jim's advice and install these
items. The Jet Pack installed just fine, but the MDAC install would "hang."
Similar problems are discussed in Microsoft's knowledge base article:
Computer Stops Responding (Hangs) During Setup, Installing Updates, or
Adding
New Hardware (Q281967)

The solution here is to delete all oem*.inf files that are zero kb in size.
I found 23,000+ files and the delete process took nearly two hours.
