Dick,

I accomplish this output on reports by doing the following:

I created an event named "Children." Under the option "Event Sentence
Definition" I define the Description field to read: They [::have::had]
[-Desc] [-EventName]. [Notes]

(note: the conditional field automatically changes depending on whether the
parents are indicated as living or dead).

Then when I encounter a situation such as you describe, where all is known
is the number of children and nothing else (and I encounter it often), in
Marriage Event I invoke Children, and in the Description field I enter the
number of children as appropriate, say, five, and then on reports it prints
out as follows after the marriage info:

"So-and-so married so-and-so."

"They had five children."

This looks and flows very naturally on book reports.
