At least in New Zealand this is how I understand it. An adopted child is adopted by a family usually at birth and stays with that family for their entire life. A fostered child is usually a ward of the state. They may be lucky and have a life similar to that of an adopted child, however it is more like that they will move from family to family as they grow up. Some organisations that help with the fostering of children provide the family with money for clothing, education and such things for the child. I believe this doesn't happen for children in adoption situations. Lyndell
