Ron,
As a suggestion, you might want to use "The Family History Library
Catalog" at http://www.familysearch.org which lists Kiel in the
following way:
Germany, Preuen, Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel
Germany, Preuen, Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel (Gterdistrikt)
Germany, Preuen, Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel (Stadtkreis)

Hello list,
I am a new Legacy user and would like some assistance in determining the
proper method of entering German location information into Legacy 4.0.
In the Basic Data Entry section of the Legacy for Beginners CD Geoff
Rasmussen states that there are 4 components used by Legacy for each
Location entry: City, County, State, Country with each field separated
by a comma.
I have been entering location information such as Kiel,
Schelswig-Holstein, Germany which only uses 3 of those positions.
Legacy would sort this location entry with Kiel as the city,
Schelswig-Holstein as the county, Germany as the state and nothing
entered as the country when in fact I believe Schleswig-Holstein should
be treated as the state and Germany as the country.
Using that logic I think I should enter the information as:
Kiel,,Schleswig-Holstein, Germany or
Kiel, Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Kiel is the Kreis (district) that Kiel is located in and I would equate
that to county and Schlewsig-Holstein as the state in the US.
Using another example for Kreis Plön I think I should enter:
Preetz, Plön, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Am I following the correct logic on how these entries should be made?
Thanks,
Ron Opfer
