Well beth you got me!! :-)
You are correct. It IS "ahnentafel". Sorry everyone,
and especially the Legacy programmers. There is a correct
spelling and I probably got it wrong.
I checked how it is spelled in FTM's help files -- Anentafel.
Then I went looking in other sources, and couldn't find it,
much to my chagrin! It isn't in the index of Val Greenwood's
book on doing American Genealogy, nor is it in the
Encyclopaedia Britannica. If it is in either of those places
I couldn't find it!
However, since I remember that the word comes from the
German for Table of Ancestors, I went to my old German
English dictionary, It lists "Ahn" as ancestor. The plural would be
Ahnen, if I remember my high-school German correctly.
The German for "table" is "tafel" so an "Ancestors Table"
would be an "Ahnentafel".
Next time I'll check my facts a bit more before writing
to this group! Y'all don't miss a trick!
