Have you tried the Miscellaneous Searches?
I read your initial message as looking for people in your file who didn't have parents.
Either Direct Line Ancestors with no parents
OR Linked individuals with no parents.
Both find end people in your family lines.
The second finds far more as it's looking at everyone in the file, not just family lines - but it will "find the beginning of each separate line?"

Then, I should get two or three lines, right? The "imaginary" common person had three children, so I am betting (if I understand this), there will be three lines showing.
