I converted to PAF4 GEDCOM from my PAF5 database then imported and had the
same results. This is definitely a problem with the way Legacy is
importing the PEDI tag. There are probably other programs out there that use
the same convention. As I said before, the part that really scares me is
that (1) it did not say it was an unrecognized GEDCOM statement (2) it did
not report it in the error log as being ignored (3) given it is a data loss
and I have no way of seeing it, now I'm concerned about what OTHER data
is simply being dropped without telling me. It is very troubling.
I have now spent a considerable time trying to check my file and given it is
quite large, I am now second guessing my wanting to switch to Legacy.
Given the popularity of PAF5, I would think Legacy should try to make it as painless (and lossless) as possible to convert.

A more successful way to import PAF 5 is to export it first to PAF 4 format and then read the PAF 4 database directly into Legacy. You'll have more control over how the data interprets.

Hi, I'm new to the list, and I apologize if this message appears twice. I was having trouble posting.
I am trying to convert from PAF5 to Legacy 5. And I noticed during the import that
I am losing all the adoption flags (the PEDI adopted tags.). I believe they should be converted to
Mother and Father relationship (_MREL and _FREL tags in GEDCOM). I realize that the PAF5
version is a one to both mapping, but I think mapping to both _MREL and _FREL is better than dropping
the tag completely. Also, even if it is dropped, it was not reported in the error log, nor was is reported that
it was a tag not supported. So the data just disappeared. I don't think it is right to have data disappear
without reporting it somewhere. I did a round trip GEDCOM: PAF5 GEDCOM export in format for PAF5,
import to Legacy, export GEDCOM in Legacy in format for Legacy. I also manually added the child/parent
relationship to see how it is exported by Legacy.
Along the same lines, it would be nice if the mother and father relationship were somehow
shown on the child listing similar to the child status information. It is real hard to see adoption/guardian
status at a glance. Even if it is somehow abbreviated as in M:Adopted, F:Adopted.
