Joana,

When you say "folding keyboard", do you mean a handheld that has a built-in
keyboard (like a laptop) or one that attaches to a folding keyboard? You'll
find that the Handheld PC's (H/PC's) which are the "laptop" style devices
are significantly more expensive. (and a limited # of manufacturers, I
believe NEC is the only one left making them) Here is a link to the NEC
MobilePro 900 which has a street price of about $900.

If you mean a "PocketPC" type device with the ability to attach to a folding
keyboard, your options are a lot more diverse. "Stowaway" is one of the
manufacturers of folding keyboards and can be found here:

I have one of the older stowaways that work with an iPaq 3650 and the
keyboard is amazing.

Here is a link to a site where you can compare various PocketPC models. (one
place to look is under "Buyers Guide", "Educate Me", "Devices at a glance",
then pick either PocketPC or PocketPC Phone edition to see more devices)

You may also want to consider a "thumbpad" instead of a keyboard. It takes
up a lot less space and is still quite usable although you obviously can't
enter text as fast as a keyboard. The HP iPaq H4355 has a built-in
thumbpad, but you can also get thumbpads that snap on for other devices.

Here's a sample of the h4355 at Office Depot. (May not be the best price, I
was just looking for a sample price and photo)

Or here it is at the HP site

Here's an example of a thumbpad from Targus (who also makes full size
keyboards) for the iPaq (3800 and 3900)

And of course, you'll want software to work with Legacy which is where I
come in... Pocket Genealogist. (Windows CE devices, it won't work with Palm
devices)

Subject: [LegacyUG] Handheld PC to use with Legacy

Legacy Users,

I would appreciate it if someone who has successfully used a handheld pc
with Legacy would email me off list. I am making several trip to the
National Archives and would like to have all my data with me on a handheld
pc. I would like one that uses a folding keyboard. Each and every response
will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Joana S. Donovan
