Rich,
While there are advantages to having an alpha list of sources, having the
option of source numbers can be very helpful, especially for a GEDCOM import.
Being able to preserve the original source numbers from a GEDCOM file
originated in other software can make the transition to Legacy much easier. For
example, in trying to import a Generations file, I see the cryptic source name
"Source" if Legacy can't properly import the source sub-fields. (Generations
has a nasty habit of using non-standard items.) That isn't much help when
trying to edit the Legacy file and cross-referencing to a Generations source
listing. I do know that TMG will preserve the original source numbers from a
GEDCOM file and wonder why Legacy can't do likewise. Perhaps Legacy could
change the import procedure so original source numbers from an imported GEDCOM
file from other software are automatically added to an existing or new source
sub-field. By the way, where is the "Source ID Field?" If I click on
view>mastr lists>source and edit a given source, I don't see a field of that name.
