Hi all,

I just got through a marathon session watching the Legacy Training CDs. They were very
good and just the information about sources, using the citation section and clipboard
is worth the price. I do have a question that was not addressed (or maybe I missed
it) I was very pleased to hear that the graphics files are not embedded into the
family data file. I had heard before (maybe even with another program, not Legacy)
that they were and so it was suggested NOT to include them because of making the
family file so huge. The other problem of course is establishing a path that will be
permanent or at least easily replicable if the computer was changed, etc. I had wanted
to do something so that my path was to a CD, but since you don't know how much you'll
end up getting onto a CD and whether the hierarchy established will be permanent
enough not to have to go through the family data file and changed paths made me
hesitant to begin that way. So I will tell my plan and see what y'all think or if you
have a better option.

When I scan images or download census image files, I put them into my established
folder system that I have in PaperPort. I have basically two types of folders at the
highest level--locations beginning with states and breaking down to couties. That's
where I'd put my images of censuses and newspaper clippings. Then I have family
folders which is where I'd put photos and copies of vital information.

Okay, so my plan is to use the same hierarchy, but under the "Pictures" folder of
Legacy. When I scan the image at a high resolution, I'll save it to my PaperPort
documents as I have been doing. Then I'll reduce the resolution and size and save that
image to the "Pictures" folder of Legacy. Then anytime I add an image, it will always
be in the same relative location to the data file. I would also want to back up that
folder on a regular basis.

So does this sound reasonable and does anyone have any other better suggestions?

Thanks.

Patti
