This has always been an option in Windows. You need to "Add Printer" -- you can add as many as you like without them being connected to your machine. In Win98 it's under Start > Settings > Printers. For the settings choose "Local printer", the same make and model as your son's (another as your one at work), for Port select "FILE:", for Default select "No". When printing from any program choose the printer you want to use. If it's a "file" printer you will be asked to provide a file name for it. This file can then be taken to another printer and "copied" to the printer. This same principle, using the printer manufacturer "Generic", can also be used to create a text file when only a "Print" option is available. Hope this helps.
