There is no reason you cannot include non relatives in the DB. Then they can be
attached to the Events.
One thing IMHO is that some people imply/infer that the DB is messed up if there is
more than one tree.
Last time I looked I had a couple hundred trees. That is because I have included all
persons living in a
town in Norway, because of the intermarriages, and all the populace of a certain
county in KY which
has lost/never had the sale of family land in 1820. The names are missing from the
indexes?? I also
have listed all witnesses to baptisms/christenings for possible future match ups.
I guess I don't understand what way, beyond Event connections you wish to have, for
non-bloods?.
About the Living indicator, it should be workable if you set the set to NO if lived
over 1 year old (or 1 day).
Even in a big DB, the number of people marked yes should be minimal. I am very sorry
to hear someone is
leaving, but maybe I have given enough of a suggestion to stick it out.
BUT IT IS UP TO YOU.

Subject: [LegacyUG] How do I "Turn Off" the Living Indicator

The use of roles/witnesses for my events is very important to me.
Originally, I thought this ability would make it into the release of Legacy
5.0. It didn't. Ken explained it turned out to be more involved than
anticipated but it was still on the drawing board. A couple of months
later, Ken responded to another post regarding the ability to "link"
participants to an event, and he indicated that this would happen and that
it was a very important issue to them. Since this does not seem to be
forthcoming in Legacy, (I don't want to wait for the eventual release of
Legacy 6.0 and discover this still hasn't been addressed), therefore I am
looking at transferring my Legacy data via Gedcom 5.5 to another program.
One of the problems I am encountering is the use of Legacy's living
indicator. Legacy's Living = N is transferring via Gedcom as a tag.

How do I either turn off the automatic Living indicator, and change all of
the "N"s to a blank, or at the very least, how do I omit this from
transferring via Gedcom.

Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron Bernier
