On the other hand, I tend to try to keep things simple. I'd make one
source called "Grandmother's Letters Collection" and in the Main source
entry describe what the collection includes: the number of letter, range
of dates covered, subjects discussed, etc. Then, when citing the source
of information in a particular letter for details for a particular
person, I'd put the date or some other identifying factor in the Details
area for that particular usage. You may even want to quote the pertinent
passage in the Comments area of the Source Detail screen. 

If the letters are not all dated, you might number them arbitrarily.
