Unless your directory structures are identical (old PC and new PC) Legacy will not recognize any of the pictures until you tell it where they are through Options-Customize-Locations.

Great. I'll do 1) as I have to hook up the old computer again to transfer over some files I forgot.

I was a little hesitant to try unzipping the file myself, lest I miss some process that Legacy might perform. But it sounds like this would have been ok to do.

Thanks for the help, Glen.

There are 3 ways

1.) Use your parallel cable to copy the images folder from your old
computer to your new computer. (easiest method)

2.) Download Winzip from winzip.com and use this program to extract the
compressed files (a little harder method)

3.) If you are running Windows XP, you can use Windows Explorer to extract
your files from the Multimedia backup. Just click on the .zip file and you
will see your files and folders inside the compressed archive. Then copy
and paste to the C:\ drive where you want them to be.

Good suggestion. When I unchecked the hidden files option, I saw the file
had a .dat extension. That is, the full file name was Woodman Family
Backup.zip.dat. How in the world .dat extension got there I have no idea.
I renamed the file, removing the .dat extension. Legacy restore was then
able to "see" the file, and the restore process was completed, apparently
without a hitch.

But now another problem. When I try to restore the multimedia files, I get
the error message "The zip file C:\Legacy\Data\Legacy Multimedia Backup.zip
does not contain a Legacy Family File for restoring." The only option then
is to cancel the process. I confirmed that my photos are not present on the
new computer. Any other suggestions?

In Windows Explorer, click on Tools / Folder Options. Select the "View"
tab. Make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
and
also make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is
checked. Once you have done this, look at your .zip files and see what it
shows.

I have a new computer and have been migrating files from my old computer
to
the new one via a parallel data transfer cable. Prior to transferring my
Legacy family file I backed it up in Legacy (both the family file and
multimedia files). I re-installed Legacy 5.0 Deluxe on my new computer
with
no problems and transferred my zipped backups over to the Legacy\Data
folder
with no problem. The problem is that when I select File>Restore Family
File
from the menu, and the "Select a Backed up Family File to Restore" dialog
window opens up, no files are visible. I double-checked in Explorer to
confirm that the files are indeed present and with a .zip extension. Any
suggestions?
