That's correct, it's just the quirky wording of the report if the known
parent later married

e.g.
John SMITH-[1] was born in 1800.

             John had a child.   They had one child: William.

              William SMITH-[2] was born in 1825.

             John married Mary BROWN-[3] [MRIN:2] in 1827.  Mary was born in
             1802. They had one child: Mary.

              Mary SMITH-[4] was born in 1828.

How do you get the words to be "He had one child: William" rather than "They
had ..."

Jane,

Every child must have two parents.  It's not a marriage structure, it's a
parental structure.  The mother can be marked as "This person never married"
and in the Individual Information Edit window, you can change the
designations for the Family View, how the "unknown" is referred to, etc.
