Bill,
Generations was the only genealogy program that allowed sources for parts of 
notes as far as I know. Legacy allows a note for every event. Some 
researchers prefer one biography-style general note because it is easier to 
edit a family book.

The most *readable* sources are plain text in notes and images of parts of 
source documents. eg. According to the familysearch.org version of the 1881 
census, the family name was spelled Moor. Online index by Don Lewis shows 
More spelling for the same family. See the image with difficult handwriting 
style in the Moore chapter of the family book that was copied from a 
microfilm printout made at the Provincial Archives... -- Elizabeth
