You are right. That is not how I did it. I redid my work last night. I created
a false marriage
type called Junk, gave to some marriages in my DB. Then I went to the search
and replace
screen, put Junk on the top choice, went to the bottom choice, hit the
spacebar once, back
spaced once. In the choice list I chose Exact, then ran the program. It changed
the name
Junk in the marriage type list, (not any of the marriages), to blank. Then I
went to the
marriages I had put 'Junk' in, all were cleaned up. Junk was not in the list of
choices under
anyone or anywhere.

Rich,
Thanks. I just tried that, and it looked familiar...like I had tried it
earlier. So, this time it did not give me an error. Said 1 replacement was
made. I did a Search on Relationship to Father (213) and Relationship to
Mother (214) = "Natural" -- so I guess 1 replacement was made...? Tried
again and used "Replace All" -- 2 replacements made, but my 2 searches yield
the same counts. I just don't think this is working.
Of course, the field I'm doing Search and Replace on is "Lists-Child-Parent
Relation" -- I'm guessing that means in the master list, not in the various
children lists...? Looking at the master list, though, nothing has been
changed.
Thanks, though.
--Paula
PS-I cannot change the "Natural" to blanks and then combine.

I just remembered what I did for a similar thing. I had put 'bad dates' on
all marriages with an
abt. What I did was go to the Search on the 'File' bar. Open Search and
replace, find the choice
from the menu, using List-Marriage Status. I then replaced all with a
Spacebar but backspaced. Worked like a charm.
Above LMS is the child-parent stuff. Save before trying.

Lill Ann,
Thanks - although I'm not working on Child Status, I did go back into the
Relationship to F/M and it had the same long button at the bottom. However,
it will not let me combine a record with the Legacy blank record. I did try
this many months ago - glad I had done that - would hate to think I had been
doing the corrections the old fashioned way all this time for naught! ;)

Right mouse click on the children's names in the family view and select
Childrens
settings.
Click the down arrown on the Child Status field
In the box that opens, highlight Natural and click the Combine the.... box
at the
bottom
The click the EMPTY row at the top of the window and click Highlight the
destination
box at the bottom.

If you have more than one, you can combine them first then remove or remove
each
with the process described above.
